This was a great hotel. The front desk staff speak very good English and are very prepared when it comes to common questions a tourist might ask. The hotel itself is very close to some good shopping areas and historical sites, but if you are looking for a place right next to Kyoto station this isn't it. However, it is close to a subway and smaller train station which both connect to the large main Kyoto station. I was a little surprised at the size of the room, small, even for Japan standards, but it worked quite nicely for two people and they do have larger rooms as well. I would definetly stay here again.

This hotel is setup more for business travel. But excellent service and cleanliness. Rooms are quite small, but comfy. Location is right next to a subway station (and not a JR line by the way). It's walkable to Nijo castle and the downtown area, but there are subway stations closer to the downtown area. If you care about location, I would recommend one near Kyoto station or near the Gion area.

Rooms were dirty and shockingly dirty for Japan (other places we stayed were extremely clean). Carpets were old, rooms were not well maintained. Otherwise, hotel staff was okay. Breakfast was very good.

As other reviews has mentioned...the first thing you will notice when you enter is the size of the room. I stayed in a "double", which was a room basically just large enough to fit a Full size bed and a desk, approximately 8'x9'. This is your advanced warning that your room will be small! Also on the remote control, if you push the Channel +/- buttons, you will be exposed to a preview of Porn. To view regular channels you actually need to hit the number button to select the channel instead. So hit the 1,2,3,4, etc button, not Channel +/-. Other than those 2 things the hotel is fine. A plus the hotel offers is free use of computer and internet! There are 3 computers for public use. However, since there are only 3 there is often a line to access them during the day. The hotel is located right around the block from the subway station, which is 3 stops away from the main Kyoto Station. There is also a JR station somewhat "nearby" for those that have JR passes, but it's around a 30 minute walk. I would suggest just taking the subway or bus. Hotel lobby is decent, and only one person at the front desk spoke English.. but for the price, I really can't complain. I would stay here again. And its walking distance to Nijo Castle and Imperial Palace (about 10 min).

This hotel does not deserve its star rating. The rooms are pathetically small, (my husband had to move aside so I can pass through)and the bed and the pillows are uncomfortably hard. Worse of all is the porno tv preview that the hotel has in each room. We were aghast when we turned on the tv and saw very graphic porno scenes apparently to entice people to buy the shows. We had our children with us in another room and we warned them about it. They themselves were dismayed by the "weird Japanese tv". We hope that families bringing their children with them would reconsider staying in this hotel.

A long walk from train station carrying travel bags - take the subway. Otherwise great location, walking distance convenient to all Kyoto. Nice hotel with a great western/Japan breakfast.

The advantages of the hotel is the proximity to the manga museum, the free bike rental which is useful to get to golden shrine, and 10 empty fridge to use as all other Japanese hotels break new ground in mini bar markups. The rooms are very small and the twin beds are close together

Location is excellent. 100 meters from Katsumara-Oike stop on subway, which is only 2 stops away from the Kyoto Train station. Also the hotel is close to a food plaza that has all kinds of restuarants. In house breakfast is only 2000 yen a piece and has a nice selection. Staff is very hospitable and they have computers with free internet for your use. The only downside is that the pillows on the beds were hard, but other than that I only have good things to say about this hotel. I will definately stay there again.

Situated close to subway station with lines to Gion area and main train station. This hotel is comfortable and functional. Breakfast is good value. Overall good value for money and I would definitely go back on another trip to Kyoto

We booked online and have had some bad experiences in the past but this was a pleasant suprise. The Heartons rooms are spacious *By Japanese standards, the location was between the Palace, the CBD and the Old Kyoto part of town. We were able to walk everwhere. There is a subway 30 seconds walk away and as in all parts of Japan it is safe and clean the the trains run about every 2 minutes. The Heartons breakfast was a higlight also, the mix of guests Germans, Americans，Australians and lots of Kimono clad Japanese. The food was a teriffic variety and hot and fresh. Upstairs on the second floor we tried the restaurant and had a fantastic SETO or set menu of sashimi and Tempura that was served in elegant surrounds. The meal was 4,700 yen which is 50 Aussie dollars including wine and beer. great for 2 people. Highly recomended

El hotel tenía una situación excelente. Estaba situado a 10 minutos de Nishiki market y a 20min de Pontocho, alrededor había muchos restaurantes baratos para comer o cenar y muy cerca había una boca de metro que con solo tres paradas te llevaba a la estación central de Kyoto. Sin embargo, la habiatación era diminuta para dos personas, no había ni una mesa ni un armario. Pero, eso sí, estaba limpia.

Siamo stati all'Hearton hotel per 6 giorni e ci siamo trovati bene. L'hotel è piccolo e un po' vecchiotto, la stanza minuscola, ma il personale è molto gentile e disponibile e la posizione è ottima.

Bra hotell i Kyoto, bra läge nära T-bane station och city kärnan

l'hôtel est situé dans une rue calme de kyoto, mais à 50 metres d'une artère principale et d'une station de metro. on peut se rendre au quartier de gion pour un diner en un quinzaine de minutes. les chambres sont grandes et agréables. un petit hotel avec les prestations et le confort des chaines internationales.

Var sent ute med att boka och hade börjat misströsta (allt var fullt!) när det har alternativet dök upp. Och hade rum! Vi bokade bara en dag innan vi kom dit. Bra läge nära tunnelbanan, bara ett par stopp från centralstationen. Runt hörnet från Mangamuseet och med gångavstånd till centrala stan, och - ännu bättre - cykelavstånd till en massa sevärdheter! Man fick låna cyklar och internet gratis, stort plus för det!
