I'll start by saying it is difficult to rate this hotel. It has a great location, absolutely great. It is only a few blocks from Time Square and another few blocks from Grand Central Station. So the location is great, the quality of the hotel is definitely not the best. The rooms are small, marks, scuffs and dirt on the walls. The cleaning staff are really nice and helpful, the front staff leave a little bit to be desired when it comes to friendliness. Overall I probably wouldn't stay there again unless they renovated the interior.

After a speedy check-in and friendly greeting by helpful staff, I was shocked when I entered my room. Upon first glance, I saw a cracked ceiling, stained blanket, and marks all over the walls. Not only was a king size bed jammed into a tiny space, the room was in serious need of maintenance. The first night in the Hotel Pennsylvania led to the discovery of a leaky toilet, an iron that didn't work, and one of the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept in. The bed was so uncomfortable that it was almost impossible to sleep. The bathtub was disgusting, and it was difficult to use the provided climate control due to missing knobs. I do not recommend this hotel, spend more and stay elsewhere!

I was very pleased with our room at Hotel Pennsylvania. I was very skeptical after reading terrible reviews, but was pleasantly surprised with our room. We booked a Penn 5000 room and I'm not sure if this made a difference or not. After reading reviews of bed bugs, rats, and roaches, we found absolutely nothing like this. I don't know if I just had a great room or if all these people were crazy, but it was hard to believe this was the same hotel. It is an older , little bit run down hotel but was always clean with a comfortable bed.

Penn 5000 Club had continental breakfast and two free computers for internet use on my floor which I liked. Long line to check in if you weren't a Penn 5000 reservation, but I had to ask around to find out how to check in faster. Bathroom was clean and not moldy. Clean towels and room cleaned every day. We could see Macy's out our window, great location for the subway, etc. I would stay here again.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. It is close to the Penn station and subway. The hotel room looked old and was in a bad condition. The bathroom was dirty. Had to walk a couple of mins from the elevator to reach my room.

After a transatlantic flight and the rail journey from Newark Airport to Penn Station, we were pleased to see the hotel, literally, across the street. However, the 60 minute wait behind a queue of fellow europeans all arriving from Italy, Germany etc left us very jaded. I enquired about the delay and was told the hotel was always this busy. Wish I'd walked up the street a few blocks and got to bed 45 minutes sooner!

this hotel has one thing going for it , it is in a good location ! the rooms had no view, i was looking at a brickwall, rooms were too dark even in the daytime, the rooms were not modern at all, and the breakfast was terrible.

The rooms were small. Check in took forever - two clerks 40 people in line Shower with inconsistent temp - too hot or too cold depending on what your neighbor was using. No bellman to help with luggage. They had a fire on the 14th floor while I was there. Rate was good and location met my needs. Will not stay there again.

The location for the hotel is perfect. The few staff members I had to deal with we're very nice. The room was a little lacking in appearence. The rooms look like they haven't been worked on in ages. Overall I would stay again for convience

When we first arrived we waited in line for over an hour, there were about 6 registers with 3 open and staff members standing around doing nothing. When we finally got up to the desk I felt like I was deaf because the cashier was mumbling so much that I had to ask her to repeat herself everytime she spoke! The room was small and not extremely clean either. There was a fowl musty odor on our entire floor. It was not a fabulous experience, I've had better hotels stays at Motel 6!

This place was absolutly gross. It is an old hotel so I wasnt expecting a 4 star experience, but it seemed like the room hadn't been cleaned in weeks. After my one and only night at the Penn I was physically ill, I'm pretty sure there was some kind of mold present in the room to trigger this. Also, it took an hour of waiting on line to check in. Do yourselves a favor and do not stay here

I would never recommend this hotel. First we had to wait about 45 minutes in a LONG line trying to check in because there was only 3 people working the front desk at check in time. Of those 3 people, I would say only 1 of them was doing their job properly. The other two women were slow and had more interest in looking over their paychecks and complaining that it was wrong than helping the 30 people in line. No matter what time we walked through the lobby there was ALWAYS a long line of people and only 3 people working. Our room was pretty disgusting. There was long hairs in our bed, the smell was so bad we had to go buy some candles to cover up the odor, and for some reason the floor always felt moist. Worst of all, on our last day we found a gigantic ROACH in the ceiling light near the restroom. Never going near this hotel again!

I almost always stay at the Pennsylvania Hotel because of the convenience of taking the train into Pen station from Buffalo, I get off in Penn station, go up to the hotel room and drop off my bags without dragging them all through Manhattan, then go right back downstairs and take the #3 train uptown to Harlem. This last stay I got some rude service at the front desk. I was asked for a credit card to post $40.00 which would be refunded to me if I didn't have any room charges. When I asked for details of this charge and documentary proof of this charge on my card it went south. The clerk instead of just politely explaining the charges became rude and sassy.

we arrived at the Hotel Pennsylvania at 3pm. We were in a line to check in in for over an hour. There was a fierce shortage of staff at the check in. The Hotel room was very shabby and there were inscets in the bathroom. There was a drip from the faucet in the shower and it was very annoying. There were cobwebs on the side of the bed. I dont know the Bord of Health can allow this place to trade as a Hotel. My over all opinon of this place is ita a dump.

I was expecting far less than what I found. Other reviews had me a little worried about my decision to stay here but once we got there and checked in , we were very surprised to find that either they had made vast improvements in their service or maybe others were there on a bad day! We experienced friendly service at the desk and from the maid services. Valet parking was a breeze and even when I had to get something left in the car there was no problem. Checked in in less than 10 minutes and out on Sunday morning in less than 15 minutes

Hotel was clean but old. The room carpet had worn holes in it, the room could have used a coat of paint and the bed sheets had holes in the bottom. The bed was comfortable and the service was good. The location was good for what we needed to do.

The only its location is my recommended. The room was a little dirty, wall painting was peeled and bad smells came out from air conditioner. The Front desk area is very clean and beautiful but more than 20 guests were in a line for checking in, but there is only one enployee in front desk when I checked in around 4PM. I could not believe that.

I was not expecting it to be the Waldorf but it expected more. The doors made the hotel look like a prison, there was not enough hotel personnel to run the front desk efficiently, and my room had a weird odor.

Hotel Pennsylvania is conveniently located next to the train station, which is nice. After walking across the street, my party proceeded to wait in line to check in for over an hour. The only consolation was that the line was infinitely longer when we got through, so other people had to wait longer. When walking into the room, you run into the bed. There is a small area surrounding the bed with dirty carpet. There is also an uncomfortable looking desk. The bathroom had random hairs everywhere, on top of a fresh roll of toilet paper. They obviously cleaned the room, just not very well. Also, the air conditioner was broken and blew humid, warm air. The location is great, but I would pay more for a hotel that didn't make me feel dirty.

I mean who goes to NYC to stay inside at the hotel!?!?!? I loved Hotel Penn for the location, and the room was actually much bigger than it looked in the pictures (the double queen bed room) the bathroom was a little small and if you're going for peace and quiet, you should know the walls are pretty thin and we woke up to our neighbors talking (but that was our cue that we'd been sleeping too long and it was to get out and enjoy the city!) With this deal and location, this hotel would be hard to beat! Next time I'm in NYC, I will definitely stay at hotel Penn again!

"The hotel is perfect to stay in Manhattan, it has a perfect location. In the back of the Empire State and in front of the Madison Square Garden. The metro station is very near and it is at waking distance from Time Square!

Room was a bit outdated. Doors looked like they came off a battleship. Shower head was about 5' high (I'm 6'). Breakfast for my son and I at Lindy's cost $43 (before tip) for eggs and French toast. Front desk only had 2 people working at anytime. I waited 15 mins to check in. But the next day the line was 3x the size and still only 2 people. Only good thing is location

Hotel is located right across from MSG, which is about the only positive aspect of the experience. When we arrrived to check in early (1:00pm), we were told that the room was not ready. This was fine as the advertised check-in time was 3:00pm, but in order to allow us to walk the city and see our show on broadway we had to pay $4.00 to hold our bag until check-in. When we arrived back after dinner to check into the hotel there was a line out to the front doors of the lobby, there had to be about 60-75 people on the line to check in with only 2 hotel staff members to assist. The line took us over two hours to check into our room, and at 9:45pm there was still 60 people behind us online. The hotel rooms look like they are from the day the hotel opened with very outdated furniture and bathrooms. Upon checkout we had to wait on a 20min line and still there were only two staff members assisting, and we had to pay another $4.00 to hold our bag so that we can enjoy the city before we headed home. This hotel was the chepest hotel in the area, and we got what we paid for.

Great Location. The front desk was helpful and very professional. Lobby was fine. The hallways leading to my room were dark,& dingy.Room service food was always in the halls. Inside the room paint was peeling off the walls, and the bathroom had mildew on the shower walls and some shower tiles were missing. The paint and dry wall in the bathroom was bubbled and peeling off.

The service while I stayed at Hotel Pennslyvania was the worst I have ever experienced. This hotel would not accomodate to our needs at all. Then our room was not clean, lights did not work, the telephone did not work and they did not gives us towels. It was a horrible experience.

The location was very good, the price was good for NY city, but the room was old and the bathroom kind of dingey. Like I said you get what you pay for, but I think I'm willing spend a bit more elsewhere next time.
